About the Mediator/Conciliator:
Megan Alfa is a social worker by profession. She worked in the Family Court, Sydney Registry, for 14 years, before leaving in September 2006 to establish a private practice in mediation/conciliation of family law children's issues. During her time in the Court, Megan worked as a Family Court Counsellor (now Family Consultant) for 11 years, where she conciliated with parents to assist them to reach developmentally appropriate agreements for their children.
Megan was also trained in mediation by the Family Court and is an accredited Family Court Mediator. She worked for several years in the Mediation Unit at Sydney Registry in the late 1990's. She has also undertaken additional training and supervision in mediation with Unifam and, as with conciliation counselling, has years of direct mediation experience. Megan has vast experience in dealing with family law issues and the impact of parental separation and conflict on children. Megan approaches mediation and conciliation from the perspective that children, rather than their parents, are her clients and that parents are meeting with her to represent their children's best interest. In this way, the welfare of the children remains paramount.
Megan has conducted parents' groups, assisting them to deal with post separation parenting issues.
Prior to working in family law, Megan worked with both couples and families who were experiencing dificulties.
